Mandala

My final in drawing was meant to be a series of work that came from observation. Lucky for me my teacher made an exception and allowed me to draw Mandalas for my series. I've always been attracted to circular patterns. I would doodle them all through my classes in junior high and early high school. The universe took it upon itself to remind me of thing just in time for my final. By this I mean the subject kept coming up. In art history we where going over cathedrals with rose windows as a focus at times. I was also watching Peter Draws, someone who is a wonderful ink based artist who does do very intricate mandalas from time to time. Even my roommate would bring it up while I was playing with the idea of my series. She gave me two mandala coloring pages.

All of thing reminded me of how much I love doing this type of art. I'm really glad for that. I'll need to keep doing them. They all turned out really well. (Though the coppery one was never finished. I ran out of time. To be fair I only had to do 3.) I used those 50 cent folk art paints from walmart, basic crayola thin markers, and derwert colored pencils. Maybe there was some contey pencil in there too. It has been a while.

Creative Activities

I had a class last semester that had to do with instilling creativity into young children with a wide range of activities. Part of the course required that we have an art portfolio. These where the art pieces I had with mine.

Materials: Tempera paint, wavy plastic pieces

Materials: Tempera paint, eye dropper

Materials: Tempera paint, golf balls, marbles

Materials: Tempera paint, toy cars

Materials: Tempera paint, q-tips

Materials: Colored tape

Materials: Tempera paint, yarn

Materials: Tempera paint, shaving cream

Materials: Milk, charcoal

Materials: Tissue paper, other junk items

The final for this class was a mess. I had meant to go into class an hour early so I had time to print out the final. When I went to find the keys they where gone. Turns out my dad took the keys with him to the next town over. DX Seriously? Why?

It took pretty much the full extra hour to contact them and for them to get back. I was so flustered I left my flash drive. On top of that I was late. I swear I was close to crying but the teacher was completely understanding. She said I could email it to her and so long as it was in before 4, which was a good few hours away, she would except it.

Paint Box and Prison Riot

I got virtually no sleep because I stayed up to write analyzing papers for english today. There was a riot so my dad got called in to the prison at 8 last night. He stayed till around 2pm the next day and had to dry out everything he had on him because he was under the sprinklers/hoses what every they where using. I don't know much more then that other then there may have been around 200 criminals involved. I had to get a ride with my step mother so I had to listen to her talking for a good 2-3 hours today.

This is my water color paint box. It gets ignored often.
